Aims
Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (BCB) are transversal and fundamental disciplines in life sciences research, and their objective is the processing, analysis, modeling and interpretation of biological data. Our mission is to integrate, promote and improve BCB knowledge and resources within the CSIC.
Connection of the BCB community at the CSIC
Connection of the BCB community at the CSIC
The internal and external connection of our members, promoting mutual knowledge, collaboration, the generation of new ideas, and scientific excellence.
Competency mapping at BCB
Competency mapping in BCB
The Mapping of the CSIC’s competencies in BCB, at three levels: people , defining the names and competencies of the CSIC’s research teams and services in BCB; methodologies , creating an accessible, annotated and operational catalog of the bioinformatics software developed at the CSIC, and computational resources, establishing, connecting and improving the scientific computing network of our institution. We aspire to become the gateway to demands for expert knowledge in BCB coming from both academic institutions and companies. We will map and connect our units and services at BCB to foster links with other CSIC connections and platforms.
Generation of a value offer in BCB
Generation of a value offer in BCB
The generation of a Value Offer in BCB based on the CSIC’s own research that allows developing strategies of excellence in the management of big data and that supports research in life sciences inside and outside the CSIC. This value offer therefore combines scientific excellence, promoting frontier research at BCB within the CSIC, and technological excellence, providing bioinformatics resources with efficiency and quality. HubBCB members are distributed throughout the network of CSIC institutes and participate in other Connections, which we understand as an opportunity to make our
Value Offer effective, so contact with other Connections will be part of the HubBCB strategy.
Training and attraction of talent
Training and attraction of talent
Actively promote BCB Training, particularly the attraction and retention of young researchers, as a strategy for scientific sustainability and growth. We understand that the CSIC BCB training program also has as its mission the training of professionals who can apply expert knowledge in BCB in the industry, therefore being a tool for impact and economic transformation.
Visibility and internationalization
Visibility and internationalization
Promote Visibility and Excellence of the BCB brand of CSIC internally and externally, and both towards our scientific peers and the business community that requires knowledge of the BCB. Likewise, we intend to influence public policies to promote the scientific and technological development of the BCB inside and outside the CSIC. The BCB-Connection integrates the six CSIC groups participating in the national node of the ESFRI Landmark ELIXIR – the European bioinformatics infrastructure network – and will serve to promote the BCB of the CSIC at an international level.
Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the scope of BCB of the CSIC, particularly those related to inclusion and sustainability. We commit to working to close the gender gap in scientific careers, and to move towards a sustainable practice of computing.
