Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) at EBD

The BCB lab was established at the Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD) to meet the increasing demand for high-performance computing for genomics and large-scale data analysis, while providing computational support and services to ecologists and evolutionary biologists.

Raúl Ortega (Technical Manager), computer engineer hired through the Severo Ochoa Grant, maintains our high-performance computing cluster, develops and deploys scientific applications with Docker and Kubernetes, and trains users to effectively use computing resources and applications.

Marina García, biologist and permanent staff member, provides training and technical support in scientific programming and statistical analysis for research on biodiversity monitoring, time-series analysis, database management, and predictive modeling under global change scenarios.

Miguel Sánchez, bioinformatician hired through the Severo Ochoa Grant, provides technical guidance and support to researchers conducting genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other bioinformatics analyses beyond traditional “omics” approaches.

Miguel A. Fortuna (Scientific Manager), computational biologist and permanent staff member, strengthens research capacity, promote interdisciplinary collaborations, and advance innovation in computational biology and bioinformatics.
