Biography: Paula Ruiz-Rodriguez is a researcher in the PathoGenOmics Group (I2SYSBIO, CSIC) and a PhD candidate in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Valencia. Her research uses phylogenomics, population genetics, and computational biology to dissect the evolutionary dynamics of pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Through advanced computational pipelines utilizing Python, R, and Bash, she analyzes extensive genomic datasets to identify genetic variations crucial to pathogenicity, transmission, and drug resistance.
Paula's scientific contributions have been published in prestigious journals, including Nature Genetics, Nature, mBio, and Virus Evolution, and have been recognized through distinctions such as the Ciutat d'Algemesí Scientific-Technical Award. Beyond her research, she actively promotes science communication and public outreach as a coordinator at Expociencia, and integrates art and science through scientific illustration projects. Paula is also involved in multiple international professional societies dedicated to bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, and infectious diseases. Through rigorous science, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a passion for communication, she continues to address critical challenges posed by infectious diseases and their evolving threats to global health.
