Biography: Aureliano Bombarely is a researcher focused in the study of the plant genome evolution and the development of bioinformatic tools for genomic analysis. He graduated in the University of Malaga in 2001 and then he pursued a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the same university under the supervision of Prof. Victoriano Valpuesta and Dr. Jose Federico Sanchez Sevilla. After his graduation in 2007, he moved to the Boyce Thompson Institute (Ithaca, NY, US) where he did worked as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of the Prof. Lukas Mueller in the development of the SGN database and the genome assembly and analysis of several species such as Solanum lycopersicum (tomato), Citrullus lanatus (watermelon) and Nicotiana benthamiana until 2013. In 2012, he also started to work with the Prof. Jeff Doyle at Cornell University in the study of the evolution of polyploids until 2014. After his postdoctoral period in Ithaca, NY, he moved to Blacksburg, VA with an Assistant Professor position in the department of Horticulture of Virginia Tech to work in several genomic aspects of the evolution of the genomes under domestication. During that time, he published the petunia genome as well as he started to work with other plant species such as Sinningia speciosa, Olea europaea and Asimina triloba. He stayed in Blacksburg until 2018, when he was recruited with the position of Associate Professor in the Dipartimento di Bioscienze at the Universita degli Studi di Milano (Milan, Italy) where he stayed until 2021. During this period, he continued working in several genomes and started to work with the TE landscape characterization. In 2021, he joined to the IBMCP with a position of CSIC Full Professor.
