Biography
|
Beatriz Novoa is a Research Professor at the Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (IIM-CSIC), where she leads, together with Antonio Figueras, the Immunology and Genomics group. She graduated in Biology in 1989 and obtained her PhD in Biology from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in 1993. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Aberdeen (UK) and completed her training at the University of Maryland, the University of Maine, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania (USA). She has published more than 190 articles in SCI journals (WoK h-index = 43), more than 80% of them in first-quartile journals, and 25 books and book chapters. She has been principal investigator of national and European research projects. Her awards include the Prize of the Galician Academy of Sciences (1993) and the 6th JACUMAR Award for research in aquaculture (2006). She is very active in research training, having supervised 16 PhD theses as well as master's theses and final-year projects. She has organised international conferences and seminars, has served on the scientific committees of several international congresses and has given talks at many national and international meetings. She was Deputy Coordinator at ANEP (Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, 2012-2018), is an editor of the journal Fish and Shellfish Immunology and, since 2016, President of the International Society of Fish and Shellfish Immunology. Her research focuses on the molecular basis of the immune response of fish and molluscs through gene expression analysis. She also studies inflammatory processes associated with human diseases using the zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model. |
